People say that movies help them escape from reality. Movies take you to the unseen lands and unexplored waters. You could be anywhere in the world and yet be watching snow-clad mountains of Switzerland and Kung fu Masters of Shaolin. But is watching enough?
What if we told you that now you can literally escape reality, and be transported to a whole new world, with movies. Imagine wading through the snowy Alps or dodging the flying daggers. And all this without actually having to go there. It’s time to take movies to the next level.
Introducing – Immersive Media (IM).
There’s a thin line, they say, between real and unreal. With IM even that thin line gets erased. The audience is immersed in an unreal virtual world, which seems more real than reality. Immersive Media is already changing the face of the Gaming industry. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, IM has entered the movie industry. Many sci-fi movies like The Matrix and Tron have touched upon the concept of virtual reality. And now, Entrepreneurs and Filmmakers are working together to bring it to the audience. Soon everyone (and not just programmers turned superhuman) will be able to enjoy this mind- blowing experience.

Immersive Media is here to give you an out of the world experience, quite literally. Viewers are immersed into a make believe environment, giving them the feeling of being a part of this virtually created space. It is sure to bring a huge wave of change in cinema. We are looking at an Interactive Immersive 360º view film. It is not just going to impact a viewer’s film watching experience, but also the techniques and aesthetics of filmmaking.
The viewing angles, which range from 180º to 360º, will determine how the film sequence will be designed. Another important factor would be to decide whether to create an entire virtual world for the viewers to explore or preset their level of physical movement. And not to forget the constant tug of war between CG imagery and Live Action. Also, editing a 360º footage on a 2D monitor will not bring about the desired results. Therefore, everything about filmmaking will be revolutionised with the adoption of this groundbreaking technology. Creating a film with Immersive technology will need an amalgamation of creativity and technical skills.

IM will break the traditional filmmaking norms. Gone are the days when the viewers were mere spectators. They will be able to explore different perspectives and make their own stories. It will be like being in the centre of a round Cinema screen, only better. You won’t have to fight for the best seat anymore!
Does that mean we could be waltzing around in the Titanic soon? Hopefully, very soon! So, all you film buffs hold your breath, because this new technology is going to be the greatest thing you would have ever seen.
Virtual reality (VR) has penetrated into every sector imaginable. Architecture being no exception. The introduction of new technologies, such as Oculus Rift, Google Glass and Microsoft’s Hololens, not only make these virtual experiences possible, but also are quickly becoming the next wave of how people will experience their daily lives.Read more >
